Brian May was joined in the studio back in March by 10cc’s Graham Gouldman for what May called "a little surprise."
The “little surprise” turned out to be the new song, “Floating in Heaven,” which was written by Gouldman to celebrate NASA releasing the images this week taken by the James Webb Space Telescope, which was launched last December and officially became operational this week.
It is intended to succeed Hubble as NASA’s official flagship mission in astrophysics.
May, who is also an astrophysicist, says, “There is nothing more exciting in a world of exploration than going to a place about which you know nothing. The sky’s the limit for what we could find out.”
The song is also has a video, which includes footage from NASA along with digital animation of the telescope, and features Gouldman singing and May on guitar.
