The moving words of Cher eulogizing Sonny Bono are a poignant part of his funeral which took place on January 9th, 1998, just days after his death in a skiing accident.
The service for the singer-songwriter turned TV personality, restaurateur and later Congressman was the first for a rock and roll artist ever televised nationally.
During the service, Cher said, "When I was young, there this section in the Reader's Digest, and it was called, 'The Most Unforgettable Character I've Ever Met.' And for me, that person is Sonny Bono. And no matter how long I love or who I meet in my life, that person will always be Son for me."
That moment provided their adoring fans one last glimpse at the emotional connection between the two beloved personalities.
