Rick Astley scored his second #1 hit in the U.S. in June 1988 with “Together Forever.” Rick took some time to reflect on the pop scene during his 80’s heyday.
He commented, "The '80s were a very crazy time for music, or pop music, especially. It was so much about the video. MTV was king in those days. And even though radio was massively important -- and obviously, still is today -- I think the video, therefore the image of bands and artists, was hyped up to something that was just almost ridiculous at times. And it was more about a video, more about what people were wearing, than what they were actually singing about."
Rick also recalls being asked to sing the title song for the Julia Roberts movie “Pretty Woman,” but he declined at the time because he said he’d never heard of her. Rick Astley was nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy in 1988, but ultimately lost out to Tracy Chapman.
