Jimmy Buffett's last album on the way

The final album Jimmy Buffett recorded before his death will be released on November 3rd. ‘Equal Strain on All Parts’ is Buffet’s 32nd studio album, and first featuring all original material since ‘Life on the Flip Side’ in 2020.

The album also features Paul McCartney playing bass on "My Gummie Just Kicked In,” a song which was inspired by something Sir Paul’s wife Nancy said during a dinner party with Buffett and his wife Jane at their home in Sag Harbor, New York.

The late Jimmy Buffett recalled that conversation. He said, "We went to sit down and Nancy was my dinner partner and Paul was down next to [my wife] Jane at the other end of the table with like 20 people on it. And when Nancy went to sit down she kind of stumbled a little bit and I said, 'Whoa, are you okay? You okay?' And she said, 'No, no, I'm okay. My gummie just kicked in.' There you go. And then I said, 'Can I have that line?' And then, from down at the end of the table I heard, 'Whoa, whoa, whoa Jim, Jim, what's going on up there?' It was Paul and I said, 'Stay down there. This is your wife and I working on this thing.'"

Buffett also talked about McCartney calling him last spring and offering to play on the song “My Gummie Just Kicked In.” Buffett recalled, "He said, 'You know, if you need somebody to play bass...' I wanted to say, 'Nah, I got somebody else.' That was my first thought. going, 'It's okay, but...' I got to be very honest because at times you go, 'That's Paul McCartney in there playing on your song.'"

A look at making of the song can be seen on YouTube. The album also features appearances by Emmylou HarrisAngelique Kidjo and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Besides "Gummie," two more songs are out now on YouTube -- "Like My Dog" and "Bubbles Up."
