Paul McCartney has given fans a new way to enjoy his classic 1973 album, ‘Band on the Run,’ by releasing the "Underdubbed Mix" of the album’s title track. The song, which is available now on digital and streaming platforms, features a stripped-down version of the original recording, with less overdubs and more emphasis on the vocals and the rhythm section.
McCartney explained the concept behind the "Underdubbed Mix" in a statement: "When you are making a song and putting on additional parts, like an extra guitar, that’s an overdub. Well, this version of the album is the opposite, underdubbed. It's 'Band on the Run' in a way you’ve never heard before."
The "Underdubbed Mix" of "Band on the Run" is part of the 50th anniversary edition of the album, which will be released on February 2nd in various formats, including vinyl. The vinyl edition will follow the U.S. tracklist, which includes the bonus track "Helen Wheels". The anniversary edition will also contain a Linda McCartney Polaroid poster, featuring photos of the band and their travels.
Band on the Run is widely regarded as one of McCartney's best solo albums, and it won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group or Chorus in 1975. The album was recorded in Lagos, Nigeria, with McCartney's band Wings, and it features some of his most popular songs, such as "Jet", "Let Me Roll It" and "Band on the Run".
