Nile Rodgers, the iconic musician and producer behind the band Chic, has been named one of this year's laureates of the prestigious Polar Music Prize. The award, established in 1989 by Stig Anderson, ABBA's late manager, is a testament to Rodgers' indelible impact on the music industry.
The Polar Music Prize committee extolled Rodgers for transforming disco and funk into high art. His masterful compositions for icons including Diana Ross and David Bowie have been lauded as timeless works that will transcend generations. "The songs he’s created... are so well-crafted that they will outlive us all," the committee remarked.
Rodgers is set to receive the award in a grand ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden, on May 21st. His name joins a list of legends who have previously been honored, including Sting, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, and Paul Simon.
