Former Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora has released his third song from a series of four new tracks. The release is strategically timed to coincide with the debut of the 4-part documentary on his former band, "Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story," which is currently streaming on Hulu.
The new song, titled "Songs That Wrote My Life," follows the release of "Livin' Alone" and "I Pray," the latter of which Sambora says was originally intended for a Bon Jovi album.
"Songs That Wrote My Life" is a tribute to the music that shaped Sambora's life and career. It references legendary songs like The Rolling Stones' “Brown Sugar” and "Tumbling Dice"; Don McLean’s “American Pie”; Martha and The Vandellas' "Dancing in the Streets"; Jimi Hendrix's “Purple Haze”; and Bon Jovi's own "Livin' on a Prayer." The song also includes shout-outs to Bob Dylan, John Lennon and Paul McCartney, Jimmy Page, and B.B. King.
Sambora, who collaborated with former Bon Jovi producer Bob Rock on these songs, says he’s happy with his current phase of life and the joy he derives from songwriting and making music. He said, "There’s a tremendous freedom with these songs because I don't have to think about charting number-one or what’s happening on the radio but I still put the same craftsmanship, care, and love into it as I did with [the Bon Jovi albums] Slippery When Wet or New Jersey."
The fourth and final song in the series, “Believe (In Miracles),” will be released this Friday, May 17th, and all songs will be available on digital platforms.
