The Most Renter-Friendly Cities In 2024

Not everyone wants to own a home and some folks who do are forced to rent because of expensive home prices. Renting can also come with its own headaches, like bad landlords and competitive markets. But renting in some cities is easier than others and new research reveals the best places to do it.

  • ApartmentAdvisor’s new study reveals the Most Renter-Friendly Cities in 2024.
  • They researched 98 major U.S. cities looking at factors like ease of renting, affordability, tenant protection laws and quality of life.
  • Cities were rated on vacancy rates, demand, new residential construction, desirability, the median income-to-median rent ratio, rental property price trends and more.
  • Based on all of that, they name Raleigh, North Carolina, as the most renter-friendly city.
  • In this fast-growing city, the pace of building new homes has kept up with demand and Raleigh has a healthy vacancy rate.
  • At the bottom of the list is Akron, Ohio, the least renter-friendly city in the study. El Paso, Texas, is next, followed by Fort Wayne, Indiana.
