In Bruce Springsteen’s new documentary, ‘Road Diary,’ the most poignant revelation is the diagnosis of his wife, Patti Scialfa, with multiple myeloma, a rare form of blood cancer. Diagnosed in 2018, Scialfa, who is also a member of the E Street Band, chose this year to share her journey publicly. The documentary provided a respectful platform for the announcement, allowing fans to understand her absence from recent tours.
Springsteen shared that Scialfa’s decision to speak about her illness was handled with grace and without sensationalism. He emphasized the importance of letting fans know why she hasn’t been able to perform in their usual three-hour shows, as the illness is extremely fatiguing. Despite these challenges, they found a way for her to still participate by singing a song or two during performances, which brought joy to both the band and the audience.
Looking ahead, Springsteen and the E Street Band are set to embark on an eight-date Canadian tour, starting in Montreal and concluding in Vancouver on November 22nd.
