Simon and Garfunkel really mending fences?

Art Garfunkel recently opened up about the rift between him and Paul Simon, which began in 2015 when Garfunkel was interviewed in The Telegraph. During the interview, Garfunkel pretended to have an imaginary conversation with Simon, expressing frustration over Simon’s decision to walk away from their successful partnership. Art also mentioned that he believed Simon had a Napoleonic complex and was jealous of his height. By 2016, Simon had declared that their collaboration was over.

Earlier this year, Simon’s son Harper arranged a lunch for the two in New York, leading to a heartfelt reunion. Garfunkel shared with Rolling Stone that the meeting was very positive, emphasizing the importance of resolving past conflicts. Garfunkel admitted that his previous comments to the English press had hurt Simon, but their reunion brought about a warm hug and a deep emotional connection. Art reflected on their shared history, noting that they were not only musicians but also jokers and lovers of Lenny Bruce from the beginning.

When asked about the possibility of working together again, Garfunkel remained open but non-committal, saying, “We’ll see. You never know.” He reminisced about how their creative process often began with Simon sharing new music, which Garfunkel would enthusiastically support. Rolling Stone suggested a potential reunion for Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special, to which Garfunkel responded positively, highlighting Simon’s dedication to the show. As for a tour, Garfunkel expressed willingness to try, saying that if their musical blend was still there, it would be irresistible. The duo last performed together in 2010.
