Led Zeppelin documentary coming soon

The highly anticipated documentary, ‘Becoming Led Zeppelin,’ is set to hit IMAX screens in nearly 200 theaters on February 7th. This film promises to be a visual and auditory feast, chronicling the legendary band's formation and early years. According to Allison McGourty, the film's writer and producer, creating this documentary was no easy feat due to the scarcity of footage from those formative days.

McGourty and her team spent five years tirelessly traveling back and forth across the Atlantic, digging through attics and basements in search of rare and unseen film footage, photographs, and music recordings. Each piece of media was meticulously transferred using custom techniques to ensure that, in IMAX, these 55-year-old clips and music would look and sound as if they were created yesterday. The result is a stunningly immersive experience that brings the early days of Led Zeppelin to life like never before.

Becoming Led Zeppelin premiered in 2021 at the Venice Film Festival and the Telluride Film Festival, but producers have since added even more material. The documentary takes viewers up to the release of their second album, Led Zeppelin II, and includes unreleased footage of their performance at the Atlanta Pop Festival in 1969, home footage of John Bonham and his family from 1968, and a "never-before-heard" interview with Bonham. However, LedZepNews.com notes that this interview is actually a 1972 Australian radio interview with Robert Plant and Bonham that has been widely available for years. Ahead of its official release, IMAX theaters in 18 markets will host one-night-only early access screenings on February 5th, with tickets available now at Imax.com/LedZeppelin.
