With Brian Wilson no longer performing because of dementia, his Beach Boys bandmate Al Jardine is stepping up to lead Wilson's band, now called the Pet Sounds Band, on tour. Jardine shared with Rolling Stone, “I’ve been gathering up the troops, Brian’s excellent band. We’re all just dying to get back to work, and I thought I’d take the reins.” He's also hopeful that former Beach Boy Blondie Chaplin, who previously toured with Wilson and Jardine, will join in.
Although no dates have been announced yet, Al Jardine is aiming to hit the road in June, July, and August. Fans can expect to hear some classic Beach Boys hits, along with songs from their often overlooked '70s albums like 15 Big Ones, The Beach Boys Love You, and M.I.U Album, which are set to be compiled into a box set later this year. Jardine is excited about the tour, saying, “There’s a lot of material to draw from that people haven’t heard before. And we’re going to have some fun.” He also plans to incorporate a video component, similar to what he did on a previous tour with his son Matt Jardine and keyboardist Debbie Shair.
