Simple Minds are stepping into the spotlight once again—this time on the big screen. The legendary Scottish rock band is the subject of a new feature-length documentary titled ‘Simple Minds: Everything Is Possible,’ set to hit theaters on June 13th. The band wasn’t exactly “alive and kicking” at the idea when they were first approached. Frontman Jim Kerr admitted to the Hollywood Reporter that they were hesitant, saying, “We were reluctant to do that… We just thought, how do you make it in any way unique?”
What changed their minds? According to Kerr, it was the vision of director Joss Cowley, whom he affectionately refers to as a “young kid.” Cowley managed to capture the gritty essence of “monochrome Glasgow in the ’70s and ’80s,” the city that shaped the band’s early dreams and struggles. Kerr praised the documentary’s ability to portray the full arc of their journey—“the ups, the downs, the sideways and stuff”—with a humility that’s rare in rock documentaries. “By the end, we had to put our hands up and say, ‘Really good job,’” he added.
With Everything Is Possible, Simple Minds fans can expect more than just a nostalgic trip through the band’s greatest hits. The film is a story of ambition, resilience, and the raw reality of chasing dreams in a tough city.
