Billy Joel hits the pause button

Billy Joel has announced the cancellation of all his scheduled concerts for the remainder of this year and next, following a diagnosis of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH). In a statement released by his team, it was revealed that the condition—marked by an abnormal buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain—has been worsened by recent performances, leading to issues with his hearing, vision, and balance. “Under his doctor’s instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period,” the statement read. At 76, Billy Joel is prioritizing his health and expressed deep gratitude for the care he’s receiving and the support from fans.

Among the 17 canceled shows were high-profile stadium dates with fellow music icons Stevie Nicks, Rod Stewart, and Sting. Despite the setback, there’s a silver lining for fans: the upcoming release of his documentary, Billy Joel: And So It Goes, which will premiere at New York’s Tribeca Festival in June and air on HBO later this summer.

In his own words, Billy Joel shared a heartfelt message to his fans: “I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience and thank you for understanding.” While NPH can mimic symptoms of dementia, it is one of the few neurological conditions that is often reversible with timely treatment. Joel’s team remains optimistic about his recovery.
