In a recent interview with ‘Get on the Bus,’ Michael Anthony, the former bassist of Van Halen, opened up about his one lingering regret from his long career. Reflecting on the band's tumultuous final chapter, Anthony shared, “The only regret that I have is the way it all ended. It should have gone out with a bang that shook the world, and it was more like a whimper.” He expressed sadness over unresolved tensions with the late Eddie Van Halen, noting that time might have healed their rift had Eddie not passed away. According to Anthony, there were even plans in motion for a full-band reunion tour, which sadly never came to be.
The rift between Eddie Van Halen and Michael Anthony reportedly stemmed from Anthony’s continued friendship and musical collaboration with former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar. This tension ultimately led to Eddie replacing Anthony with his son, Wolfgang Van Halen, in 2007. Despite the fallout, Anthony has since spoken with Wolfgang about the possibility of reconciliation and the reunion that was being considered. “Unfortunately, it was not to be,” he said.
