Randy Bachman is still bringing it

When it comes to rock ‘n roll bands from the '60s, '70s, and '80s, it's rare to find groups still performing with their original lineups. Time, health, and life inevitably take their toll. A perfect example is Randy Bachman's current version of Bachman-Turner Overdrive. While the name remains iconic, the faces on stage have changed. On Facebook, Bachman reflected on the reality of aging in rock: “The bulk of musicians in my era were born in the 1940s. Think about that. Eight decades ago.” He emphasized that while many still have the passion, not all have the physical or mental capacity to keep going.

Bachman addressed fans’ curiosity about lineup changes with honesty and grace. “Sometimes the public demands to know why someone isn’t playing; that is their business, not ours to discuss publicly,” he wrote. He explained that continuing with stand-ins isn’t about money—it’s about keeping the music alive and making people happy. Touring, he noted, is grueling at any age, and many musicians rely on physical therapy, massage, and chiropractic care just to stay on the road. Still, the goal remains the same: to recreate the sound fans love and deliver a great show.

Looking ahead, Burton Cummings will join Bachman next year for a special tour under the banner of The Guess Who, backed by members of Cummings’ band. By then, Bachman will be 82 and Cummings 78.
