Following the deluxe reissue of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' 1982 album Long After Dark last year, Petty’s fans now have another reason to celebrate. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has unveiled a new exhibit dedicated to the album and the tour that followed. The display offers a treasure trove of memorabilia, including studio notes, handwritten lyrics, and the acoustic guitar Tom Petty used during that era including the original music video script for “You Got Lucky,” cassette recordings from a 1982 show in Edinburgh, Scotland, and a variety of backstage passes and ticket stubs.
Later this year, the Hall will screen Tom Petty: Heartbreakers Beach Party, a film captured during the Long After Dark tour. This immersive experience gives fans a deeper look into the creative and performance energy that defined the band during the early '80s. The album itself produced two enduring hits—“You Got Lucky” and “Change of Heart”—which remain staples in Petty’s catalog and continue to resonate with audiences decades later.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were officially inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2002, with the honor presented by Jakob Dylan, son of Petty’s Traveling Wilburys bandmate Bob Dylan.
