The Rolling Stones are finally back in the studio after months of rumors. A recent post on Instagram shows Mick Jagger laying down a harmonica track at Metropolis Studios in West London, captioned, “Holidays are over… back to the harmonica.” There have been a few reports that the band has been recording new material since April. The Sun revealed they’ve already completed 13 songs and are discussing a release date for what would be their 25th studio album.

Originally, The Stones had planned to bring their massive U.S. tour to the U.K. and Europe this summer, but scheduling conflicts got in the way. Instead, they shifted gears and headed back into the studio. Just before the release of their 2023 album Hackney Diamonds, Mick mentioned they had recorded over 20 songs during those sessions, with only 12 making the final cut. He hinted that they were already ahead of the game for the next album, needing just a few more tracks to get it wrapped up.

Some of those leftover tracks from Hackney Diamonds feature contributions from former bassist Bill Wyman and Paul McCartney, which could potentially appear on the upcoming release. The Stones are also preparing a 50th anniversary edition of their 1976 album Black and Blue, the first to feature Ronnie Wood, who just celebrated 50 years with the group. That reissue is scheduled to arrive in November, just in time for the holidays.
