Foreigner’s landmark album ‘4’ is once again in the spotlight 44 years after its original release in 1981. The band has officially released a deluxe edition of their most successful album. In addition to their classics like “Juke Box Hero,” “Waiting For A Girl Like You” and “Urgent,” the deluxe edition digs a little deeper with unreleased songs, alternate takes, instrumentals and live recordings that take their fans behind the scenes.
That brings us to “Fool If You Love Him,” a song recently completed by original lead singer Lou Gramm. Lou said, “I went in and wrote and then sang that third verse and put the out choruses on and I matched the tonality so it sounded like it was done years ago.” 4 also marked their first as a four-piece after parting ways with keyboardist Al Greenwood and multi-instrumentalist Ian McDonald following Head Games in 1979.
4 spent ten weeks at number one on the Billboard 200—more than any other artist in Atlantic Records history, which includes AC/DC, The Rolling Stones, and Led Zeppelin. It’s sold over 10 million copies globally, with six million in the U.S. alone. Reflecting on the album, founding guitarist Mick Jones called it “one of the most exciting periods of my life,” crediting producer Mutt Lange, Gramm, bassist Rick Wills, and drummer Dennis Elliott for the rock ‘n roll magic they created. The deluxe edition is now available now in CD, vinyl, and Blu-ray formats, and in December Foreigner’s current lineup will hit the road with Lou Gramm for the Foreigner 4 Deluxe Tour.
