Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings of The Guess Who just scored a big honor—they’ve been nominated for the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Bachman says it’s a dream come true, reflecting on how he and Cummings learned the magic of hit songs as teens in Winnipeg. “Hooks, structure, singable lyrics—we found a way to make music that lasts,” he said. And now, they’re up there with the greats.
The Performing Songwriters category is packed this year. Nominees include David Byrne, Kenny Loggins, Richard Carpenter, Pink, LL Cool J, Taylor Swift, and members of America, KISS, The Go-Go’s, and KC and the Sunshine Band. That list reads like a Who’s Who of rock ‘n roll and pop.
To qualify, songwriters need at least 20 years since their first release. Voting wraps up December 4th, and the winners will be announced in January. The big induction ceremony happens in June in New York City. Bachman and Cummings are rock 'n roll royalty and we wish them all the best. We’ll keep you posted when the final list drops.
