Actor Paul Mescal is stepping into some big shoes — he’s playing Paul McCartney in director Sam Mendes’ upcoming four-film saga about The Beatles. Mescal really wants you to walk into these movies knowing almost nothing about the Fab Four. Mescal was recently asked by Variety about the project, and he said, “I don’t want to get into the Beatles thing, not coyly, but actually because I think the world hopefully will benefit from knowing as little as possible going into it.”
When asked about how the shooting process was going, Mescal confirmed cameras are rolling, but don’t expect a quick turnaround. “We’re a while away from finishing. That’s my job for all of 2026,” he revealed. With a project this ambitious, it’s going to be more of a marathon and not a sprint. With Sam Mendes at the helm and a story this big, taking the time makes sense. Mendes is reportedly aiming for something bigger and more immersive.
Mescal couldn’t hide his excitement. “I’m so thrilled to be working on something at this scale but also rooted in performance with Sam and great writers,” he said. The four films won’t hit theaters until 2028, so we have a couple of years to wait.
