Richard Marx is taking a detour from his signature 80’s pop‑rock sound with his new album After Hours, and he’s bringing Rod Stewart along for the ride. Marx has toured with Rod several times and says this collaboration wasn’t initially planned.
Richard Marx said the idea came up during a night of drinks and laughs with Rod. Stewart casually tossed out the thought of recording a duet together, and Richard said he figured it was just one of those “sounds good after a couple glasses” moments. The next morning, Rod sent Marx a text and said he really was interested in a duet, and he had a song in mind. Rod thought of the standard “Young at Heart,” which was first recorded by Frank Sinatra.
Richard loved the idea, so the song will be included on the album. Marx also gets to check another item off his bucket list: recording with Rod Stewart. If you love those old standards, After Hours is something to look forward to. I've always enjoyed those old pop standards from the 1940's through 60's. Many of our artists and songs today were influenced by those early sounds from artists like Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole.
