Nine years after his passing, fans of Gregg Allman will finally get a deeper look at the life of the Southern rock ‘n roll legend with the new documentary Gregg Allman: Music of My Soul. The film will be released in theaters this summer. Produced by Michael Lehman and directed by Grammy and Golden Globe winner James Keach, the film will feature never-before-seen interviews and archival performances—including concert footage showing The Allman Brothers Band at their creative peak.

Keach says he really connected to Greg’s relationship with his brother Duane Allman and his long battle with addiction. Keach says Gregg’s voice carried the weight of a life marked by the murder of his father, the tragic loss of Duane, and years spent wrestling with personal demons. Those struggles shaped The Allman Brothers’ sound.

The director hopes the documentary will highlight a sense of redemption in Gregg Allman’s music and life. Keach says, “His soulful voice and brilliant songs reflect a life of redemption.”  Allman died on May 27th, 2017, from liver cancer at 69.
