Bruce Johnston is stepping away from The Beach Boys after 61 years. The music legend isn’t retiring though; he’s starting a whole new act. Bruce says he’s diving back into songwriting “for real.”
He’s also building a speaking-engagement career inspired by Cary Grant with a little help from longtime friend John Stamos. Johnston also says he will return for select shows with The Beach Boys, including their July 2nd-4th Hollywood Bowl shows for America’s 250th birthday.
Bruce joined The Beach Boys in 1965 when Brian Wilson stepped back from touring. He left in 1972 and later returned in 1978. Mike Love is sending Bruce off with nothing but praise, calling him one of the greatest songwriters, vocalists and keyboardists of his ear.
