The Beach Boys’ landmark album Pet Sounds turns 60 on May 16th, and the anniversary is being marked with a slate of reissues that dig even deeper into one of the most successful albums of all time.
Headlining the celebration is The Pet Sounds Sessions Highlights, due out May 15th. It will feature 25 alternate takes pulled from the 1997 four‑CD box set The Pet Sounds Sessions, and for the first time ever, those tracks will be available on vinyl—along with CD and digital versions. The complete 90-track Pet Sounds Sessions will also be available the same day, essentially a front-row seat to the legendary album’s studio process.
Pet Sounds will be released as a Vinylphyle Edition on 180‑gram black vinyl, cut from the original mono and stereo analog tapes. There’s also a limited run of 6,000 numbered copies in the original mono mix from Interscope‑Capitol’s Definitive Sound Series.
To kick things off: a three‑track EP spotlighting different versions of “Sloop John B.” Pet Sounds was truly an album ahead of its time and a completely different sound for one of the most successful groups of all time.
