It’s been a little messy for Journey on their Final Frontier tour this year leading to speculation that this may be it for the legendary band. Ahead of the February 28th kickoff in Hershey, Pennsylvania, Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, and Arnel Pineda seemed to be pushing through exhaustion, health issues, and unresolved tension.

Cain missed rehearsals recovering from knee replacement surgery, while Pineda stayed home in the Philippines questioning whether he should even do the tour. After a painful divorce and struggling with the cold-weather routing, Pineda admitted he’s thought about retiring indicating he thought maybe his voice isn’t what it once was, especially compared to Steve Perry’s. Still, he says the band wants to continue with him, and for now, he’s fighting through it.

Schon, dealing by lawsuits involving Cain, is treating this as a farewell after Cain publicly framed it that way. Cain is already looking forward to ministry work with his wife, Paula White-Cain. Journey has powered through 18 shows so far, with more scheduled—somehow keeping it moving, at least for now.
