Fresh off the re‑release of their self‑titled 1973 debut album, Aerosmith is already teasing their next re-release: 1975’s iconic Toys in the Attic. Joe Perry recently told Billboard that album was a real turning point for the band when they finally found their footing in the studio.
The pressure of constant touring, writing songs on the fly and learning how records were actually made really pushed Aerosmith from just playing songs to becoming true recording artists. Joe says he initially didn’t think Toys needed to be revisited but when he heard the original multi-tracks on modern equipment, he changed his tune. He says the new mixes really capture what the band sounded like in the recording studio—especially on drums—which they weren’t happy with the first time around.
Perry says the album’s original tracks aren’t going anywhere, these updated mixes just bring a new way to hear them. Aerosmith’s live future remains up in the air. Steven Tyler is still working his way back from a larynx fracture.Joe Perry will tour with Hollywood Vampires beginning in August.
