The legacy of Earth, Wind & Fire will take center stage at the 25th anniversary of the Tribeca Festival beginning on June 3rd with the much-anticipated new documentary directed by Questlove. The film digs into the band’s cultural impact, tracing how their sound, style, and spirit reshaped pop music — and why it still resonates today.
Earth, Wind & Fire founder Maurice White is at the heart of the film, titled Earth, Wind & Fire (To Be Celestial vs. That’s the Weight of the World). His vision powered a long string of hits and influence beginning in the 70’s. The documentary spotlights classics including “Shining Star,” “September,” and “After the Love Has Gone,” breaking down how those songs really became a part of pop culture at the time.
The premiere is followed by a live performance with The Roots at the Beacon Theater in New York City. After Tribeca, the film will premiere on HBO and stream on HBO Max. Questlove calls his project “transformative,” saying it finally captures why Earth, Wind & Fire remain one of the most vital bands in music history.
