Ten years ago this week, on April 21st, 2016, we lost Prince, who died at 57 from a fentanyl overdose at his Paisley Park complex in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Paisley Park marked the anniversary this week with special events and a big release.
The Prince estate is dropping a previously unheard 1991 track called “With This Tear.” It arrives with a career‑spanning video full of photos and live footage, which are now streaming. The estate says this is the start of “a number of unreleased Prince recordings” coming this year as part of a never‑released album project.
Recorded in November 1991, “With This Tear” was ultimately given to Celine Dion, who released it back in 1992. Prince’s own version was penciled in for a 2023 box set combining Diamonds & Pearls and Love Symbol, but when that project was scaled back, the song went back into the vault—until now.
