Ringo Starr is teaming up once again with Paul McCartney, joining him on a new duet called “Home to Us” on McCartney’s upcoming album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane. The song goes nostalgic about their days in Liverpool.
The song began two years ago when Ringo casually played drums during a session at producer Andrew Watt’s studio. Nothing came of it until McCartney later discovered those drum tracks, built an entire song around them, and sent Ringo lyrics to sing. Even then, wires still got crossed: Starr thought he was only meant to handle the chorus. Once that was cleared up, the pair landed on something they’d never done before — trading lines throughout a song.
Ringo shared the story on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week. He added that the “drums first” approach felt fitting given their shared musical roots. This is Ringo Starr’s first appearance on a McCartney album since Flaming Pie in 1997. The Boys of Dungeon Lane will be released on May 29th. Ringo Starr will release his new album, Long Long Road, this Friday.
