Duran Duran and Chic’s Nile Rodgers have been working together on and off for a while and they’re back at it. They’re teaming up for a brand-new song and video titled “Free to Love” that feel a little nostalgic and instantly familiar.
The video for the song feels like a throwback with a tribute to the iconic UK show Top of the Pops, blending a retro feel with a modern sound. The video is already streaming. Simon Le Bon calls it “disco for the 2020s,” saying it’s all about freedom, positivity, and choosing to love the modern world instead of hating it.
Rodgers says the message is simple: true love is free and unconditional. He adds that his bond with Duran Duran—and the music they make together—has always been about a deeper meaning. No matter what chaos is happening outside, when they’re in the studio, Rodgers says they’re free to “love their peace.”
