The Rolling Stones have made it official—album number 25 is locked in and ready to go. Foreign Tongues drops July 10th in multiple formats, including cassette, with 14 new songs. “In the Stars” is already out on streaming, with a physical release coming up on May 15th. The track “Rough and Twisted” was first issued as a limited “white label” vinyl under their alias, The Cockroaches.
Foreign Tongues was recorded last spring at Metropolis Studios in West London, and the Stones are hoping it builds on the momentum of Hackney Diamonds. The album features one of the final recordings from late drummer Charlie Watts, along with appearances from Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, Robert Smith of The Cure, and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Mick Jagger says the recording sessions were intense and fast-paced, with the band feeding off the tight, energetic vibe in the room.
Keith Richards says the album keeps the same spirit as Hackney Diamonds, fueled by a what he describes as a strong London vibe and “a month of concentrated punch.” Ronnie Wood adds the band was in top form, often nailing tracks on the first take. Produced again by Andrew Watt, Foreign Tongues is already off to a strong start as we are getting ready for that full release on May 15th.
This should be quite the spectacle from one of our favorite all-time rock 'n roll bands.
