BIG Music News: Janet Jackson, Michael McDonald

JANET JACKSON:  World tour returns in September

Janet Jackson released a video announcement that her tour has been renamed State of the World.

She postponed the tour last year in order to start a family with her husband, Wissam Al Mana. In a moment of keeping it real, Janet briefly addressed her relationship status. (quote) “I separated from my husband. We are in court. The rest is in God's hands.”

Janet introduced herself, just in case people didn’t recognize her. She admitted her looks had changed since putting on "quite a few" pounds during pregnancy. Her brother, Randy Jackson, quipped off-camera, (quote) “More than a few.”

Janet shot him side-eye. Then responded, (quote) “Can you please be quiet, Randy. Nobody’s talking to you.” (Billboard)

MICHAEL McDONALD:  Announces plans for a new album and tour

Michael McDonald has announced a new album, a major TV appearance and an extensive summer tour that reaches into autumn.

Wide Open, his first collection of original material in 17 years, arrives on September 15th. Recorded in Nashville, the project has guest appearances from Warren Haynes, Robben Ford, Marcus Miller and Branford Marsalis. McDonald is backed by drummer Shannon Forrest (whose credits include Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton and Toto) along with an extensive cast of Nashville session musicians.

McDonald will celebrate the release of Wide Open with a performance for PBS’s Soundstage this fall.

More than 40 live shows have been announced, beginning June 10th at Thunder Valley Casino in Lincoln, California.
