MEMORIAL DAY: Remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice
Memorial Day is the traditional kick-off to the summer season. Let's all make sure we truly remember what Memorial Day is really about. We're honoring and remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice serving in the nation's armed services today.
Here are some events around Central Texas this Memorial Day in commemoration:
Killeen: The annual Killeen Memorial Day Ceremony will happen this morning at 10am at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center at 3601 W.S. Young Drive. Maj. Gen. John Uberti, III Corps and Fort Hood Deputy Commander will be the guest speaker. That will be followed by the laying of the wreaths, a 21-gun salute and the playing of Taps.
Killeen: The Killeen Memorial Park and the VFW of Killeen will honor the late Ted Connell, a World War II combat veteran and Killeen mayor with a remembrance ceremony at 2pm today at Killeen Memorial Park Cemetery, 3516 Lake Road.
Copperas Cove: Olan Forest Smith VFW Post 8577 will hold its annual Memorial Day service at the Copperas Cove Cemetery at 10am this morning. The cemetery is at 415 E. Avenue A.
Copperas Cove: The Star Group-Veterans Helping Veterans will take place at the organization's building at 202 Fourth Street in Cove at 2pm today. All local veterans organizations are invited to lay a wreath. For more information, call (254)681-8025.
