Stuart Copeland says The Police were't jealous of Sting's attention

As frontman for The Police, frontman Sting certainly attracted the most attention, and while that may cause jealousy in some bands, drummer Stuart Copeland says that wasn’t at all the case with them. He notes, "It was to our benefit that we had one member of the band who was just drop dead gorgeous.”

And Copeland adds that he and Andy Summers actually benefited from all of Sting’s attention. He explains, "a car pulls up, there's a mob and we throw Sting out the door first and while the piranhas are going after him we get out the other side and sneak into the hotel."

But the rocker does admit all the adulation got to be too much at times, although he insists they “never feared for our life.” He notes, “It was more anxious than scary… It was what we always dreamed of and paid our dues for and yet it was not entirely pleasurable. There is such a thing, it turns out, as too much love and affection.”
