Tommy James could just be celebrating the 50th anniversary of two of his most successful and distinctive songs, "Crystal Blue Persuasion" and "Crimson and Clover."
But he's also released a new album -- Alive is a mix of new material and fresh versions of his past classics.
Tommy James talked about his first studio album in a decade:
"Alive, it's been a real labor of love and it's all over the place musically. Songs that I've wanted to record for a while. Some of them go back, you know, 50 years. 'I'm Alive,' for example, which is really the title track, was on the Crimson and Clover album. So we just did a brand new version of it."
Tommy James names some standout cuts on Alive:
"The movie Me, the Mob and the Music, that is being put together now, features at the very end of the film, a brand new version of 'I Think We're Alone Now,' which is slow and acoustic. I've been doing it in the show, in the live show and we just put it on the album. A new version of 'Draggin' the Line' with Tone Z, who does an incredible little rap in the thing -- gives it a very different flavor. And then the rest are new songs."
Currently available digitally, Alive will be released on CD next month.
