With driving these days, not only comes greater responsibility of fending off distracted drivers, but paying a high price for any errors made behind the wheel. SmartAsset decided to look at which states need to step up their game. Here’s how the research was measured: the percentage of drivers who are insured, the number of driving under the influence (DUI) arrests per 1,000 drivers, the number of fatalities per 100,000 vehicle miles driven, and how often residents Google terms like 'traffic ticket' or 'speeding ticket'.
According to the results of their survey, the worst drivers aren’t in the Northeast… they’re in Mississippi!
Based on the methodology, not only did Mississippi take the top spot, but the South was well worse than any other region in the country! The only exceptions in the top five were California and Nevada,
Here are the states with the worst drivers:
1. Mississippi
2. Alabama
3. California
4. Florida (TIE), Nevada (TIE), Texas (TIE)
7. Arizona
8. Alaska (TIE), Tennessee (TIE)
10. Missouri
Do you feel this survey is accurate? Does Texas fall in the middle, or should it be moved higher on the list?
