Moody Blues' John Lodge pays tribute to fallen bandmate on new album

Moody Blues bassist John Lodge has previewed another song off his forthcoming album, B Yond: The Very Best Of.

This time it's a song his late friend and fellow Moody Ray Thomas wrote and the band recorded -- "Legend of a Mind" -- but with a slight twist. It doesn't include Ray's trademark flute solo.

Lodge tells Billboard, "I didn't want to use the flute because that was Ray's part and I wanted it to stay Ray's part and Ray's part alone. I use synthetic sounds instead, and I've been doing it on stage and the audience loves it."

Thomas died in January 2018 from a heart attack. He was 76.

B Yond also includes new recordings of songs Lodge wrote for the Moodies, some solo material and live tracks. It will be out on August 23rd.
