Billy Joel's music is coming to television. The Hollywood Reporter says MGM Television is working on a project to bring his music "to life as a scripted 'arc-thology' called Scenes From an Italian Restaurant."
The series would build episodes around Joel's lyrics, using such characters from his songs as The Stranger, the Piano Man, Mamma Leone and Sgt. O'Leary. "The tracks will be re-imagined and rearranged by Joel's music team — with his input — and take his tunes in new directions."
Steve Stark, MGM TV president of development and production, says, "Billy Joel is a beautiful storyteller, and it just so happens that his stories are accompanied alongside remarkable songs."
Billy will be an executive producer on the show, which does not yet have a network home.
