Joni Mitchell has made another rare public appearance. The singer, who has been battling health issues since 2015, stepped out this weekend to attend the premiere of the musical based on Cameron Crowe’s “Almost Famous,” which debuted at San Diego’s Old Globe Theater.
“It was an incredible honor and a surprise to most of the cast that Joni was there for opening night,” Crowe tells “Rolling Stone.” “She owned the room, offstage and on, especially when Casey and Solea [who played William and Penny] sang their version of her classic song ‘River’ in the play.”
“Almost Famous” is set to run in San Diego until October 27th, with expectations it will come to Broadway.
