George Benson is set the release his first live album in 30 years. The legendary jazz and soul performer played at the famous Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club back in 2019. Highlights from those shows will be released on November 13th as Weekend in London.
It's a return engagement for Benson, who was just an up-and-coming jazz guitarist when he played there in the early '70s. Whether then, or now, George says the club is the ideal place to perform.
The release will feature Benson’s classics like "This Masquerade" and "Give Me the Night. "Weekend in London also contains Benson's version an early James Taylor song.
George talked about his live cover of James Taylor's "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight.”
"That was such a great recording. James Taylor tore that song up, I never forgot it. So when I was asked to record it, I say, 'Well, now wait a minute now. The only thing I can really add to it, would be my improvisation. Because I look at things a little bit different when I got a guitar in my hand. It has to earn its pay! So, I make it stick out in the song. Somewhere in the song, I feature it."
