Elton John hasn't spoken a word to Rod Stewart in over two years after Rod called Elton's Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour “dishonest” and said that retiring is “not rock ’n’ roll.”Elton is trying to mend fences by sending a Christmas card to Stewart.
The Sun quotes Sir Elton as saying, “Rod and I have always had this kind of rivalry but it’s always been very friendly and funny and I love him to death. If I saw him in the street I’d give him the biggest hug. There’s no point in carrying on vendettas. Life’s too short.”
Rod, who Elton refers to Rod as “Phyllis,” recently invited Elton and his sons to his home in England to play soccer. But Elton, who Rod calls “Sharon,” never responded.
Elton says,"Rod Stewartand I have been friends and competitors from the '70s and we still have that funny relationship where he'll send me an email saying, 'Ooh, look at your record dear, it's flopped, hasn't it.' [Laughter] And that competition is great as long as you don't take it too far. Jealousy is another thing. Competitiveness is great."
