Wayne Nelson is celebrating his 40th anniversary in Little River Band and he ties together football and food at Thanksgiving as most of us do.
Nelson says,"Love having football on; the smell of the food being prepared. It's just a wonderful feeling. I'll make some people mad here. I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan -- and the Cowboys always play on Thanksgiving. That's a treat for me. I love my wife's cooking. She's from the south, she's from Nashville. So there are twists on favorites that you don't get unless you know some southern traditions. We like to smoke our turkey. Then, what she does with au gratin potatoes and pecan pie are quite amazing."
Nelson did have a career outside music. He tells a story about the country inn he and his wife once ran in North Carolina.
"It was called Woodfield Inn and it was known for its Thanksgiving buffets. We would serve somewhere in the neighborhood of 600, 650 during that day. One of the families that came there had been coming to the inn for years. The inn had a big grand starcase going up to the rooms and they brought their first picture from when they had gathered and there were four people. And now, children, grandchildren, family members, aunts, uncles, went all the way up the staircase. So we had this progression of watching this family grow and spend every Thanksgiving there at the inn. It was very touching, I got to take the picture twice while we ran the inn and that was an honor."
