Lenny Kravitz lost his godmother when legendary actress Cicely Tyson passed away last Thursday at the age of 96.Kravitz took to Twitter to recall Tyson.
Lenny tweeted an appreciation of Tyson on Friday that begins, "With inimitable style and grace, my dear Godmother Miss Cicely Tyson made her grand exit to the heavens." He praises her "remarkable life," in which she "bared her heart and soul so we could witness the spirit of the characters which she so brilliantly portrayed."
Kravitz called Tyson a "pioneer...a Black queen who showed us how beautiful black is," and a "kindred spirit" to his own actress mother, Roxie Roker. He says Tyson's role in his life was amplified after his mother passed away and that she always gave him her "unconditional support."
Lenny also revealed that he spoke to Cicely for the last time a few nights before she passed away.She had sent him her memoir Just As I Am, which was published just last week.
Lenny wrote to Cicely after she passed away, saying "Rest peacefully, Godmother. You did it all exquisitely."
