We’re celebrating a landmark album today as Carole King’s Tapestry album turns 50.The album was released on February 10, 1971 and it defined the singer-songwriter genre in music.
Carole King, who turned 79 yesterday, was already a very successful songwriter (with then husband Gerry Goffin) when Tapestry was released.
The album has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide.The album has received four Grammy Awards. It is also among the top 100 best selling albums of all times and the classics “It’s Too Late” and “I Feel The Earth Move” spent 5 weeks at #1.
Carole was asked about the success of the Tapestry album and she said, "Who knew? That's sort of delivered with a New York accident. I'm from there. I live in Idaho now but you can't take the New York out of the girl."
