Sting returns with his 15th album, The Bridge, on November 19th.The former Police front man will also return to the stage next month.
Sting tells the Los Angeles Times the songs on his new album were “written in a year of global pandemic, personal loss, separation, disruption, lockdown and extraordinary social and political turmoil...”
He adds, "It was certainly time for me to make a record, but the circumstances were unique. It’s difficult to get people together in one place, so I did a lot of recording remotely via Zoom and via studio technology. But I think the theme of the record is building bridges between separations. I didn’t begin that way - I was just writing songs - but at some point in the process I went, 'Oh, that’s what this is about.'"
The album’s first single “If It’s Love” will be released on Wednesday. Talking about the single, Sting says it’s "the most whimsical song on the record, so I thought, 'Why not?' Any song with whistling in it is a winner for me."
‘The Bridge is the first album of new material for Sting wince ‘57th & 9th’ back in 2016.
