Don McLean has announced he’ll kick off 2022 with a tour to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his legendary ‘American Pie’ album, which was released on October 24th, 1971.
Don will make a stop on February 3rd at the legendary Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa—which was the last venue that Buddy Holly (to whom the ‘American Pie’ album was dedicated) ever played before he was killed in the 1959 plane crash that also claimed the lives of Richie Valens and The Big Bopper.
McLean’s classic “American Pie” features the iconic line “The day the music died” in reference to the plane crash. McLean’s tour will kick off January 28th in Honolulu with dates running through February 24th in Tucson.
