Daryl Hall says Eddie Van Halen once asked him to join Van Halen after David Lee Roth left the group in 1985.
Daryl said, "I knew those guys really well; we actually shared some crew and things like that. And Eddie came to a show with [his first wife] Valerie [Bertinelli] and David had just left the band and Eddie said, 'Do you wanna join Van Halen man?' He was half joking, but I think he was serious — I really do believe he was serious. And I took it seriously. I went, 'Nah, I think not. I think I've got my own [crap] going on.'"
Hall is one of a long list of singers Eddie thought about, including Patty Smyth and Steve Perry before Sammy Hagar eventually signed on.
The keyboard hook in “Jump” was inspired by the Hall & Oates hit “Kiss On My List.”
Hall has added another leg to his solo tour with Todd Rundgren which will start May 12th in Seattle and wrap up May 22nd in Austin. Tickets go on sale Friday.
