Lionel Richie set to play World Games in his hometown

Lionel Richie has announced he’ll perform at the upcoming World Games, which will take place in his hometown of Tuskegee, Alabama. This will be Lionel’s first time performing in his hometown in over 20 years.

Lionel will be a part of the event’s Closing Ceremony, set for July 17th at Protective Stadium. Lionel said, “I'm honored to be joining all the talented artists performing at The World Games Closing Ceremony, and to be headlining the closing ceremonies is truly special.” He added, “I am so excited to be coming home to perform in Alabama.”

Funk legend Bootsy Collins will be the Master of Ceremonies for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. The musical lineup features other Alabama artists including Alabama, Blind Boys of Alabama and Jamey Johnson, “American Idol” alums Taylor Hicks, Ruben Studdard, and Bo BiceMartha Reeves and more.

The World Games is held every four years, in the year following each Summer Olympic Games. The event is held over 11 days and features 3,600 athletes in 30+ unique, multi-disciplinary sports.
