A Bruce Springsteen song is being used in a commercial for the first time ever after the music legend sold his music rights last year.
Pop star Shawn Mendes has recorded a cover version of Springsteen’s classic "Dancing in the Dark" for his appearance in a new Tommy Hilfiger ad. One shot features Mendes from the back with a handkerchief in his pocket, recalling the Born in the U.S.A. cover. The full ad is up on YouTube.
The use of the song comes after Springsteen sold his publishing and back catalog to Sony in 2021. Bruce appeared in a Jeep Super Bowl ad in 2021 with only score music. Springsteen turned down many offers over the years, including a $12 million offer by Chrysler in 1984 to use "Born in the U.S.A."
